Hanging Flat Mine

Entrance of Hanging Flat Mine

Access

Immediately west of the entrance to Furness (Horseshoe) Quarry, close to the road but hidden in vegetation. Worked for fluorspar in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Entrance collapsed in mid-1990s.

No known access restrictions. Obvious parking spots close to base of crags and in lay-bys in the dale and next to electricity sub-station at foot of Eyam Dale. DO NOT BLOCK the sub-station entrance. Take care, as area is notorious for thefts from parked vehicles.

Warning

There has been a recent collapse of the timber supports in the main "chamber" near the end of the right hand branch. As you approach the chamber, there was a short section of supporting timbers and passage immediately on the right. This has now collapsed and run in.
